Our Wilderness Medicine Clinic offers a unique service where we provide medical personnel or a team to accompany individuals or groups on expeditions, tourism adventures, hunting trips, and other similar activities to ensure their health and safety. Our team of medical professionals are experienced in providing top-notch care in remote and challenging environments.
For Kilimanjaro treks, we charge $2,450 per doctor and medical kit. However, our rates are flexible and can be adjusted based on the nature of the trek. For example, sports events may require more extensive medical support, which would affect the price.
Each doctor will bring their own hiking gear, and the tour operator will provide them with sleeping bags, a mattress tent, and a porter to carry their medical kit. The kit includes essential equipment such as Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Advanced Traumatic Life Support (ATLS), and a Gamow Bag (Portable hyperbaric chamber). We provide a full checklist and allow you to verify the equipment prior to the climb. The total weight of the kit is approximately 15kg for ATLS, 12kg for ACLS, and 7 kg for the Hyperbaric Chamber.
The equipment and medication carried by our doctors are enough to serve the whole group, including reserve supplies. It's important to note that our doctors will only be present up to the Base Camp (Barafu), and anyone who falls sick at the summit will be brought down there for medical care before descending or calling for a helicopter if necessary. Fortunately, we've never had an emergency with the groups we've hiked with, as our doctors perform a medical check and assist clients who present even slight signs of sickness.
In addition to medical support during the trek, we also provide pre-climb consultations. This service includes a doctor's examination and counseling to prepare climbers for their hike.
For doctors en route in remote camps such as safaris, the price varies but is generally lower than trekking since the risk is lower. The medical kit will be adjusted to suit the specific environment, for example, it may include snake antivenom in a bush environment.
Pre & Post-Climb Consultations.
At our clinic, our experts offer medical consultations to mountaineers before they embark on their Kilimanjaro adventure. We ensure that our clients are adequately prepared for their climb by providing them with important medical advice and guidance. Our consultations can take place either at our clinic or we can arrange for our doctors to visit clients at their hotels or lodges for added convenience.
Hotel & Home Medical Consultations.
We offer medical consultations to clients in the comfort of their hotel or home. Our medical professionals can visit clients at their desired location, providing them with quality medical advice and guidance in the convenience of their own space.
