Itinerary for Sensational 5-Day Garden Route

Day 1: George – Wilderness – Knysna

Start your day in George with either a visit to the Historic Railway Station or for some spectacular scenery, Victoria Bay. Carry on to the Wilderness National Park to experience a nature hike or canoeing up the Touws River and also visit the Map of Africa Viewpoint. Drive to Knysna in the afternoon; take a stroll along the waterfront, and then enjoy an afternoon boat trip to the Knysna Heads. Conclude your day with dinner at one of the lovely waterfront restaurants in Knysna.

Day 2: Knysna – Plettenberg Bay

Kickstart your day in the renowned and tranquil Knysna Forest; home to a few serene trails flanked by lush greenery. Later, drive towards Plettenberg Bay. Visit the Robberg Nature Reserve: home to breathtaking coastal walks with the chance to spot some seals. Later in the afternoon, visit Monkeyland or Birds of Eden - great facilities specializing in offering free-roaming areas for monkeys and exotic birds. Enjoy your evening with dinner on Plett beaches for a night of relaxation at one of the local restaurants.

Day 3: Plettenberg Bay – Tsitsikamma National Park

Start the day off with a visit to see the elephants up close near Plettenberg Bay at the Elephant Sanctuary. From there, drive to Tsitsikamma National Park and visit Storms River Mouth for a walk on the suspension bridge or a scenic hike through some of the beautiful forests. For the more adventurous traveler, stop at the Bloukrans Bridge- this is the site of the world-famous bungee jumping. End the day in the tranquil surroundings of Tsitsikamma at a cozy lodge or guesthouse.

Day 4: Tsitsikamma – Oudtshoorn

Take a scenic drive from Tsitsikamma to Oudtshoorn, the ostrich capital of the world. In the morning, take time to visit an ostrich farm, where one can enjoy various interesting facts about these fascinating birds and even feed them. During the afternoon, explore one of the most impressive series of limestone chambers called Cango Caves, featuring wonderful stalactites and stalagmites. If time allows, enjoy a circular drive via the Swartberg Pass with the stunning mountain scenery. Relax with a wholesome dinner and unwind this evening spent in Oudtshoorn.

Day 5: Oudtshoorn – Mossel Bay – George

Get started on day one with a trip to a wildlife ranch to enjoy exotic animals in Oudtshoorn, before taking a drive back via Mossel Bay, where there's also the Bartolomeu Dias Museum Complex with tremendous coastal views. Here you are free to take sun and sand on the beach, shark cage diving, and surfing. After having had lunch overlooking the sea, you will be returned via George, where your awesome Garden Route tour finally draws to a close.
