Day 1: Arrival in Upington
Begin your Garden Route tour from Cape Town, driving via Mossel Bay, a distance that will take about 4 hours. Stop at places of outstanding beauty along the route, such as Gansbaai or Boulders Beach, to view the famous penguins.
Day 2: Upington to Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park
Drive early to Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park via Twee Rivieren gate and start your first game drive in search of the park's iconic red dunes, dry riverbeds, and an abundance of game, such as lions, cheetahs, and antelopes. Have lunch at one of the camps in the park around midday. Continue your game drive into the afternoon, taking in the park's wildlife and large expanses during the end of the day. Enjoy a sunset at a viewpoint before returning to a rest camp for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 3: Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park
Begin with an early morning game drive in Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, which is ideal for viewing predators and other wildlife at dawn. Later, take a drive over the red dunes and waterholes of the park, stopping for lunch at one of the rest camps. Continue your game drive in the afternoon to see more animals and enjoy the expansive desert landscapes. Take a game drive again into the sunset, watching how beautiful the golden light lies over the dunes. Return for dinner and overnight at your rest camp, while deep in the park.
Day 4: Cultural Exploration in Namaqualand
Leave Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park for Namaqualand. Some small towns, such as Pofadder, can be visited in order to get a feel for the culture and heritage. During the afternoon, one can be taken into a Namaqualand community where traditional life, crafts, and customs are shared-this is a perfect way to share in the rich cultural history of the area. Later, proceed to Upington for a relaxing evening. Dinner at a local restaurant and overnight at a guest house or lodge in Upington.
Day 5: Explore Upington and Surroundings
Enjoy a relaxed morning exploring Upington: its palm-lined streets, Orange River, the Kalahari-Oranje Museum, or take in the beautiful Orange River on a 'scenic sunset' boat trip. Allow yourself to fall in love with the laid-back feel of the town and tranquil atmosphere. Local vineyards, an excursion for wine tasting, or simply enjoy other local attractions this afternoon. Finish off the day with a classic South African dinner at one of the local restaurants, then back to your accommodation for the night.
Day 6: Return to Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park

Day 7: Departure
Take an early morning game drive in Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park to savor these last moments of wildlife and fantastic desert landscapes. After breakfast, it is back to Upington to drive to the airport. If time allows, take some more time around town or along the Orange River before flying.
