Itinerary for Kilimanjaro Horse Riding

Day 1: ARRIVE IN Arusha - No riding

Begin your journey by taking a daytime flight to Kilimanjaro airport with an estimated arrival time between 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM. It is important to note that the flight cost is not included in the package. If your flight schedule deviates from the estimated arrival time, you will need to pay an additional transfer fee of approximately £45 per vehicle.

Keep in mind that flight schedules may require departing from the UK a day earlier than planned, which may entail an overnight stay either in Kenya or Tanzania. We recommend planning accordingly.

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro airport, you will be greeted and transferred to your lodge for the night, which is approximately 30 minutes away. Rest and relax before joining the group for dinner. Please note that this itinerary serves as a guide only. The actual route may vary depending on game movements and local conditions. However, rest assured that we always prioritize your best interests.

Day 2: Mount MERU - 1-2 hours riding

After a hearty breakfast, you will be driven for approximately 20 minutes to the Arusha National Park gate. Once you arrive, you will be shown to your tent where you can freshen up before embarking on a short introductory horse ride. This will allow you to familiarize yourself with your horse before the adventure begins.

The vegetation will change dramatically as you progress from open grasslands to dense rainforests. Keep your eyes peeled for elephants, buffaloes, leopards, and other plains game along the way. The forests are particularly breathtaking with their towering canopies, and the atmosphere can be quite eerie.

After a delicious lunch, you will continue riding to see Margarete Trappe's old house. At the end of the day, you will reach your campsite situated at the base of Mt. Meru. The day will conclude around a cozy campfire, where you can enjoy a refreshing drink before dinner. Before the evening meal, a safari briefing will be conducted to prepare everyone for the next day's adventure.

Day 3: NGAREJANI - MOMELLA LAKES - 4-6 hours

Get ready for an early start to the day, perhaps with the chatter of the lively Colobus monkeys. After breakfast, Mount your horse and set off towards the location where the classic movie "Hatari" was filmed.

During the morning ride, you will begin the ascent with your horse towards the impressive "Fig Tree Arch". This massive arch, big enough to accommodate five horses underneath it, is a must-see landmark on the journey.

The ride will continue until you reach a picturesque location in the rainforest next to a waterfall for a delicious lunch break. At this point, you will have climbed to an elevation of around 2000 meters above sea level. After lunch, the ride back to camp will take you past another stunning waterfall.

Upon returning to camp, you will have the option to hop in a vehicle and visit the Momella Lakes, where you may catch sight of some hippos and beautiful water birds. Enjoy a refreshing drink while watching the sunset at the lakes before heading back to camp for showers and dinner.

Day 4 — 4: MOMELLA LAKES - AMBOSELI - 4-6 hours riding

Rise and shine with the sun and enjoy a hearty breakfast before mounting your horse for the day's ride. Today plans to venture out of Arusha National Park, heading east towards Mount Kilimanjaro and leaving Mount Meru behind. The day's journey will take you through the scenic Tanzanian farmland and Massai steppe, providing ample opportunities for cultural interactions along the way.

To make the most of the cooler morning temperatures, you will aim to cover as much ground as possible. The ride will include a long lunch stop under a large acacia tree, often near a dam where the Massai water their cattle, and where your horses can also enjoy a drink. Take advantage of the break to recharge your energy with a siesta.

In the afternoon, you will enter rich wildlife areas once again, crossing open plains and ensuring that you reach camp before sunset. The day's ride is long but filled with stunning scenery and cultural experiences

Day 5 — 5: AMBOSELI PANS - 4-6 hours riding

Wake up early to the smell of freshly brewed coffee and tea, before enjoying a delicious bush breakfast. Today's adventure will be focused on tracking the largest land mammals on earth - the majestic elephants. The terrain varies from thick scrublands to acacia woodlands, offering a diverse and exciting ride.

Return to camp for a well-deserved lunch break before heading out for another ride in the afternoon. As the sun starts to set, make your way back to camp to enjoy another night in this remote and remarkable location on Earth.

Day 6 — 6: AMBOSELI PANS - 4-6 hours riding

Embark on your safari adventure as you head towards the Seven Sisters, a collection of seven hills that mark the start of your journey. Ride through the picturesque Sinya Village and continue to a shaded spot for a well-deserved lunch break. Along the way, you'll encounter various terrains, from open grasslands to beautiful canopy forests, providing ample opportunities to see majestic plains game like zebras, giraffes, and wildebeests. Keep an eye out for the elusive Gerenuk antelope, known for its shy nature.

As the day comes to an end, take in the stunning views of the four powerful mountains - Mt. Meru, Namanga, Longido, and the legendary Mt. Kilimanjaro - as you settle in for the night.

Day 7 — 7: AMBOSELI - 4-6 hours riding

Start your day with an early wake-up call, followed by a hearty breakfast before mounting your horse and heading towards the Kenyan border. The focus of the day's ride will be to track the mighty elephants, observing their behavior and movements in their natural habitat. As the day progresses, keep an eye out for other wildlife such as zebras, wildebeests, and gazelles that roam the area. The day ends with a night spent overlooking the pans, watching as the plains game remain vigilant for any potential predators lurking in the shadows.

Day 8 — 8: AMBOSELI - Arusha - 2-3 hours riding

After enjoying a relaxing breakfast, it's time to embark on your final horseback ride in the Tanzanian wilderness. You'll arrive back at camp in time for lunch and then be transferred back to Arusha, which is approximately a 3-hour drive. A day room will be available at the lodge for the afternoon before your departure back to Kilimanjaro Airport for your flight home. This marks the end of your Kilimanjaro horse riding tour.

Day 9 — 9: DEPATURE DAY
